Bio
Karen is the CEO and Co-Founder of Bushido Billing! She began her career with degrees in Zoology, Psychology, and Chemistry before earning her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College in 2009 at just 23 years old — the youngest doctor to graduate at the time. After a short associate position, she opened her own practice in Morton, IL at age 24, later earning a Fellowship in Acupuncture, becoming a Certified Medical Examiner for the National Registry, and achieving certification in Animal Chiropractic as one of only 32 doctors in Illinois.
For over a decade, Karen has run a thriving mixed practice that includes human chiropractic care, animal chiropractic, acupuncture, and hundreds of DOT physicals each year. Her firsthand experience with poor billing companies — and watching her colleagues suffer from the same issues — led her and Jeff to start Bushido Billing in 2021 with a simple belief: we can do this better.
Guided by honesty, strong communication, and a commitment to helping others rise, Karen excels at fixing broken systems and creating more efficient ways of working through automations, spreadsheets, and smart processes. She loves watching Bushido’s culture evolve and grow, comparing it to watching a child develop into something beyond what she ever imagined.
Outside of work, Karen is a dedicated sports fan who winds down by watching the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, Ohio State Buckeyes, or the Vancouver Canucks. She loves traveling, being outdoors near any body of water, and spending time with her dogs, Hercules and Apollo — who often accompany her to the office. On quiet days, she enjoys cards, volleyball, and cozy nights on the couch.

Jeff is the Chief Financial Officer and co-founder of Bushido Billing. He brings over a decade of experience working with small businesses helping them achieve growth and increased success. Since 2016, he has worked alongside his wife in their chiropractic practice in Seattle, Washington and during that time developed a passion for helping chiropractors succeed in business. His primary role within Bushido Billing is to help ensure everyone else on the team can do their job effectively and efficiently. He brings years of billing experience to the team and his role encompasses marketing, analytics, managing finances and day to day operations.
Outside of work, you’ll likely find Jeff enjoying one of his many hobbies which include motorcycling, sailing, camping and exploring the outdoors.

Sara is the Chief Operating Officer at Bushido Billing! Married to a chiropractor, she began her career managing a busy chiropractic office, where she learned the ins and outs of insurance billing and practice operations. After seeing firsthand the frustrations many clinics faced with traditional billing companies, Sara started her own small billing practice to better support providers.
In 2021, she discovered Bushido Billing and immediately connected with the company’s ethics, culture, and clinic-first approach. Today, she uses her deep industry experience to lead operations with integrity, innovation, and a commitment to helping both providers and patients thrive.
Outside of work, Sara enjoys spending time with her husband, two kids, and two dogs, as well as traveling, kayaking, trap shooting, and fishing. Known affectionately as “Unicorn,” she brings her curiosity and drive to every challenge—especially cleaning up complex accounts.

April is the Director of Training here at Bushido Billing and she is a proud military spouse. April is driven by a core belief in the power of learning and growth to transform individuals and organizations. Her rich and varied professional journey, including roles in customer service, finance, and healthcare management, has equipped her with a unique understanding of diverse needs and how to connect with people effectively.

With a career spanning medical, banking, beverage, tech, and government affairs industries, she brings a rare combination of analytical thinking, creativity, and operational expertise. Leveraging her background in psychology and over a decade of experience in administrative and leadership roles, Loriann excels at building systems that make work more efficient, scalable, and human-centered.

Emily is a Team Lead here at Bushido Billing! A nickname that she sports is "Boss Lady" after she wore a blazer and pencil skirt to school one day and her friends awarded her the name. If she could do anything in the world, she would travel with her family or sing on Broadway!
In her free time she likes to sing, everywhere, all the time as well as play board or card games. She also enjoys hanging out with her husband and pug, Frankie. A pet peeve she has is when people chew loudly.
Her work experience consists of spending 7 years in Chiropractic billing and 6 of those years were spent as an office manager. Her favorite part about her job is being able to help people solve problems and come up with lasting solutions. She enjoys doing "detective work" as a billing specialist and getting to the root of problems.

Katie is Team Lead here at Bushido Billing. She is located about 20 miles south of Pittsburgh, PA. She lives the busy mom life with a daughter who plays softball and is on a swim team. She has two sons that wrestle and play baseball and soccer. She spends lots of time with her kids at their sports, but in her free time she enjoys kayaking and crocheting.
She is a self-taught biller with over 8 years of experience in the field. Before having kids, she worked as a Radiologic Technologist (x-ray tech). She worked in a level 1 trauma center in Pittsburgh for 6 years!
One of her nicknames is Mother Kate because she was always the mother hen of her friends growing up. Her biggest pet peeve is when people's actions do not match their words. What she loves most about her job is the flexibility that she has to be able to attend all of her kid's events.

Michelle is a Team Lead at Bushido Billing! She began her career in the dental field, spending nearly a decade in both laboratory operations and in-office roles with two outstanding providers. It was during that in-office time that she was first introduced to medical billing. After stepping back for several years to be home with her kids, Michelle joined Bushido Billing in 2021 and has been an essential part of the team ever since.
Drawn to Bushido’s values and mission, Michelle is deeply committed to helping providers avoid the billing challenges she’s seen firsthand throughout her career. She prioritizes communication, honesty, and thoroughness in every interaction, ensuring clinics feel supported, informed, and confident in their billing process. Janie is a Quality Assurance Lead here at Bushido Billing! With over 13 years of experience in healthcare administration, Janie has honed her skills in physical therapy and chiropractic billing. Her journey began as a CNA, where she developed a deep appreciation for patient care. However, Janie discovered her true calling in the administrative side of healthcare, where she could leverage her organizational talents and analytical skills to ensure efficient operations.

With a background in healthcare, she began her career as a Nursing Assistant in the ICU/Cardiac ICU right after high school, working in the medical field for two years. After deciding to pursue a different path, Ashleigh transitioned to a Chiropractic Assistant role, where she has spent the last four years. Her experience includes assisting with authorizations, personal injury claims, VA eligibility, and insurance billing, as well as finding and confirming billing errors.
Outside of work, Ashleigh enjoys staying active with weightlifting, running with her dogs, and attending Pilates classes. She’s a foodie at heart, frequently trying new restaurants with her husband, and loves outdoor adventures with her dogs. Her career began as a Chiropractic Assistant working directly with patients in therapy, where her passion for chiropractic care first took root. That curiosity and dedication led her to take on billing and administrative responsibilities—where she quickly discovered a natural talent and deep appreciation for the process.
Since then, Brooke has served as the in-house biller for multi-provider chiropractic clinics and worked with third-party billing companies, giving her a broad perspective on both clinic operations and billing systems. She brings expert-level knowledge of ChiroTouch (server and cloud) and Trizetto, along with an unwavering commitment to helping clinics run smoothly so providers can focus on caring for their patients.
Outside of work, Brooke’s world revolves around her three daughters, her new granddaughter, and her five beloved dogs. She loves family walks, catching up on their favorite shows, and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs. Laurie is a Billing Specialist with Bushido Billing! With over 18 years of experience, she has honed her skills in diverse areas of chiropractic care. Her journey began at a chiropractic clinic in Wisconsin, where she initially tackled the dual role of front desk receptionist and chiropractic technician (CT). Over the past decade, she has transitioned her focus to chiropractic billing.
Thriving on working with numbers and charts, she finds equal satisfaction in unraveling billing mysteries, playing Sherlock Holmes to conquer EOBs with meticulous "digging around". Her knack for turning chaos into calm earned her the nickname "The Organizer."
When she's not cheering on her two teenage daughters as they tear up the softball field, you'll find her camping, Bass fishing, or tackling a home project with refreshing gusto. Deep down, she dreams to bring laughter to millions as a stand-up comedian on Saturday Night Live! Though she might coyly brush aside her own comedic chops, her knack for finding humor in the everyday and her unreserved appreciation for a good giggle are testament to a true funny bone.

Lora is a Billing Specialist with Bushido Billing. She knows multiple softwares but is known as our JaneApp specialist. She has managed and performed billing functions for a Chiropractic office for over 8 years before joining Bushido. Her busy life includes travel volleyball, basketball, and softball for her two daughters. She is commonly referred to as "Mama Bode" by her daughter's teammates as she is always prepared and brings forward empathy in everything she does. This clearly translates into her work and with her clients as she treats them like family.
In her little free time, she enjoys walking her mini golden doodle (Bellow), catching up on DVR, and exercising. Lora enjoys investigating claims that deny and finds it rewarding to be able to obtain every last penny from each claim for her clinics. Next time you chat with Lora, ask her for some tips on the mastery of making sourdough bread because we all know that's a skill only 1 in 1,000 of us were able to master back in 2020!

Megan is a Billing Specialist at Bushido Billing! With a strong background in healthcare, Megan spent much of her career in the field of Physical Therapy. She began as a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant, providing hands-on patient care in skilled nursing homes, before transitioning into an administrative role as an Office Manager for a Physical Therapy clinic. Her experience gives her a well-rounded understanding of both the clinical and administrative sides of healthcare.
Outside of work, Megan spends most of her free time at her sons’ baseball games. She also enjoys DIY projects, interior design, building furniture, collecting seashells, and organizing. Sarah is a Billing Specialist at Bushido Billing! With over four years of in-house medical billing experience, she brings strong industry knowledge and a detail-oriented approach to her role. Before transitioning into healthcare, Sarah spent nearly a decade as a hairstylist, where she developed exceptional interpersonal skills and a natural ability to connect with people — strengths she now brings to her work with providers, teammates, and patients. She’s excited to make a positive impact and contribute alongside a team of like-minded, mission-driven individuals.
Outside of work, Sarah is a creative at heart who enjoys gardening, fishing, and baking — especially crafting homemade sourdough bread. Music remains a meaningful part of her life, and she still loves to sing, having trained in opera during her youth.

Bio
Vanessa is a Billing Specialist at Bushido Billing! She has a strong background in healthcare, having worked in chiropractic, orthodontics, and medical office roles. Her journey began in a chiropractic office, where she gained experience in administrative support and billing. She then transitioned to an orthodontic practice as a Marketing Coordinator and X-ray Technician, before moving to Utah and joining a medical office as a Patient Service Coordinator and Drug Technician. Most recently, she worked at a Cancer Center as a Billing Assistant, where she discovered her passion for medical billing.
Outside of work, Vanessa loves staying active by playing pickleball, volleyball, and recently kickboxing, thanks to her brother's influence. She’s a big fan of hiking and spending time in nature. A lover of books, she enjoys reading non-fiction, romance, and mystery/suspense novels. Vanessa is also an avid baker, believing that chocolate chip cookies lead to sweet dreams. She enjoys spending time with her family, her boyfriend, and practicing calligraphy. A fun fact: she’s played the piano since she was 7, thanks to her mom’s encouragement, and she’s grateful for the ability to read music and play.

With over two decades of comprehensive bookkeeping experience across industries including retail, service, oilfield operations, and agriculture, she brings a wealth of financial and operational expertise to the team. A longtime business owner herself, Stacy’s attention to detail, love of numbers, and ability to manage complex data cycles make her an invaluable support behind the scenes.
She thrives on connecting the dots—posting data, pulling reports, and helping processes run seamlessly so her team can show up at their best for clients. Known for her reliability and focus, Stacy enjoys tackling large Excel reports, tracking progress one line at a time, and finding new ways to contribute to Bushido Billing’s continued success.
Outside of work, Stacy enjoys life on the farm with her family. Her favorite pastimes include reading, horseback riding, dancing, solving colorful puzzles, and camping.
