What Is the Billing Specialist Role at Bushido Billing?

It's a full-time, 100% remote insurance billing position with a chiropractic and allied health billing company. You own the full billing cycle for a set of clinics rather than working one narrow slice of it.

Most billing jobs split the work. One person posts payments, another chases denials, someone else talks to the client. Nobody sees the whole picture and nobody owns the outcome.

That's not how this works.

You'll carry 3 to 8 client accounts, depending on their size, and you're the person those clinics talk to. You submit their claims, work their denials, run their AR, and send their reports. When something's off in an account, it's yours to find and fix.

It's more responsibility than a claims-entry job. It's also a lot more interesting.

Is This Position Remote?

Yes. This position is 100% remote, and it always has been.

You'll need a secure, private office space where you can work with protected health information. That's a requirement, not a preference. Computers and mailing supplies are provided by Bushido Billing.

This role is open only to US citizens located in the United States. Alaska and Hawaii included.

What Does a Billing Specialist Do Day to Day?

  • Completes full-cycle insurance billing operations and acts as the primary point of contact for 3–8 client accounts, depending on their size
  • Retrieves, sorts, and posts incoming insurance payments with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Submits claims in a timely fashion, and reviews outgoing claims before submission to catch errors and likely rejections
  • Executes and tracks insurance appeals, disputes, rejections, and records requests
  • Runs insurance accounts receivable reports and follows up on outstanding claims
  • Takes initiative to identify and fix issues with claims or operational inefficiencies
  • Maintains open communication with clients about their billing operations
  • Organizes and sends reports to billing clients
  • Attends weekly meetings with the team and supervisors

The AR follow-up piece deserves a note. At a lot of billing companies, aging claims get logged and forgotten. Here, working AR is part of the job, not the thing that happens if there's time left over.

What Experience Do You Need to Apply?

At least 3 years of recent billing experience is required. This isn't an entry-level position and we don't train from scratch.

Chiropractic, physical therapy, occupational therapy, acupuncture, or mental health billing experience is preferred but not required. If your background is in another specialty and you know the work, apply.

  • Experience with EHR software — JaneApp, ChiroTouch, ChiroHD, ChiroSpring, ChiroFusion, or similar
  • Experience with clearinghouses — TriZetto, Office Ally, ClaimMD, InfinEDI, or similar
  • Strong technology skills and the ability to pick up new platforms quickly
  • Solid working knowledge of Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets, or the Microsoft equivalents
  • Strong communication skills for working directly with clients, teammates, and supervisors
  • Knowledge of and adherence to laws and best practices around PHI and other sensitive information
  • Comfort with data entry, numbers, and processing financial information
  • High degree of attention to detail and trustworthiness
  • High school diploma or GED

What Does This Job Pay?

Pay starts at $18.00 per hour. You're eligible for a raise after 90 days, pending completion of training.

Bushido Billing promotes from within. Advancement here is performance-based, and there's real room to move up as the company grows.

What Benefits Are Offered?

  • Health insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Aflac supplemental benefits
  • Paid holidays
  • Paid time off
  • Referral bonuses
  • 100% remote work with a flexible schedule

What Are the Hours?

Full-time, Monday through Friday. Daily hours are flexible depending on your skills and availability.

Weekend hours are not required. We mean that.

What Is It Like to Work at Bushido Billing?

Small team. Everybody's visible.

You're not a queue number processing whatever lands in your bucket. You know your clinics, they know you, and you can see the difference your work makes to their practice.

We communicate weekly — with clients and internally. That's how the company runs and it's a real part of the job, not an afterthought. If you'd rather never talk to a client, this will feel like a lot.

Mentorship is available and expected to be used. Karen and Jeff are both chiropractors who ran practices before starting this company, so questions about why a payer is behaving a certain way tend to get real answers.

Who This Role Is Not For

Worth being upfront, because it saves everybody time.

  • You want heads-down work with no client contact. Communication is a core part of this role, not a side task.
  • You want strict task boundaries. Accounts get owned here. "That's not my part of the process" isn't how the work is structured.
  • You're new to billing. Three years of recent experience is a hard requirement.
  • You want a fixed daily script. Payers change, clinics change, and the job asks you to think.

None of that is a knock on anyone who wants those things. They're just honest descriptions of jobs this isn't.
